"[T]he best possible preparation
for both college work and life in the twenty-first century"

~ Officials at the College of William and Mary
about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

IB World Schools are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to a high-quality, challenging, inquiry-based curriculum with a focus on international-mindedness and development of the whole
person.

IB is recognized by institutions around the world
for its rigorous preparation of students
as critical thinkers, global citizens, and lifelong learners.

According to recent surveys, the skills most desired by university professors and high-level employers are
- solid work ethic and initiative
- adaptable, creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- solid written and verbal communication skills
- ability to ask the right questions -- curiosity and inquisitiveness
- ability to access, analyze, and synthesize information
- ability to collaborate with diverse personalities, cultures, and nations “in a spirit of mutual respect”

(adapted from Tony Wagner, The Global Achievement Gap, and Jeff Butterfield, study conducted at Kentucky CC)

These are the skills emphasized in the IB curriculum and philosophy.

IB Info Night was Feb 11!
If you missed BP's IB Info Night & IB Art Show 2016 and still want to find out more about the full IB Diploma OR individual IB courses, scroll down to the folder below to view the PowerPoint presentation from the info session. If you are interested in applying, click also on the middle school info packet folder to view the handouts from the evening. (This information is also appropriate for other grade level students who want to apply.)
Application documents are also available in the so-named folder below.
IB Exam Registration and Payment
IB exam registration took place during the week of September 21-25. During that week, students completed a registration form clarifying the IB exams your student is taking this year, and this form should have been taken home for parents to read and sign. The IB exam fee is $113 per course, which covers the cost for all aspects of IB assessment for that course.
IB courses that test this year are 1-year courses and the final year of 2-year courses; these are listed on the lime-green IB Course Info sheet given out to IB students last week and is also below in the May 2016 Exams folder. The deadline for payment / 1st payment for IB exams was Oct 9, 2015, and payments can be made online by credit card or by check here at school to Mrs. Gose in the Counseling Office. Payment plan options are also available. If you choose a payment plan, the first payment was also due on Oct 9.
If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Stemple-Hoover, the IB Coordinator.
A new IB at BP website is under construction.
We will announce it when it goes live.

 Academic_Honesty_pamphlet
.pdf
Demonstrating academic honesty is an expectation and requirement of all college and university students; this is also the case at BPHS and of course with IB. This pamphlet, created by IB, gives a good overview of what is considered plagiarism and what the responsibilities of the student are.
